Vagabondary

[The Story]

At the end of the advanced watercolor course in college, each student chose their own final project. For her project, graphic design student Maranda Vandergriff designed a series of unique greeting cards that mixed traditional painting and graphic design using hand lettering. There was such a positive response that Vagabondary was born.

Maranda began creating unique apparel with graphics designed by hand. From there, Vagabondary grew into a lifestyle brand. The products she designs are inspired by a love for adventure and art. The items are infused with creativity and designed with a combination of traditional art, graphic design, and hand lettering.

Maranda

[The Artist]

I've had a pencil and paper in my hand since I can remember. Art has always been my passion. I taught myself Photoshop beginning at age 8. In everything I do, I seek opportunities to design. I believe that spreading awareness is best done visually. Every design has a purpose. Good design achieves that purpose in a pleasing and well thought out manner.

I started Vagabondary as an Etsy shop to sell my original watercolor greeting cards. At the beginning of 2016, I decided to take it a step further and turn Vagabondary into my personal lifestyle brand.

I am a native of Knoxville, Tennessee. I graduated from Carson-Newman University with a degree in art with an emphasis in graphic design, as well as minors in communication studies and film. By day I am the Creative Director at the Knoxville Entrepreneur Center.

You can see more of my professional work on my personal website here.

(The bus)

This past summer, the Vagabondary family grew by one bus. The Vagabondary Bus is a traveling popup shop based out of a 1978 Volkswagen Transporter. The roving store features original Vagabondary art and goods, as well as a curated collection of vintage and preloved clothing and accessories.
